STREAMING: Ensnared “Dysangelium”
May 8, 2017 Chris Dick
Sweden’s Gravehammer met its maker in 2010. Despite the group only issuing a lone EP, 2010’s Ensnared in Dismal Blasphemies, the Gothenburgers were well on their way to Nordic infamy, their hybridization of death, black, and thrash metal on either end of Decameron, Grotesque, and vintage Kreator. Now, known as Ensnared, the Swedes have taken what they learned on the fiery path with Gravehammer into new depths of darkness, where the horns of Hell blare violently and incessantly, where the air is insufferably hot and smells of brimstone cooking in the vast ovens of the underworld.

INTERVIEW: Mike Abominator from Gravehill is going to crawl out the speaker and choke you to death
March 31, 2014 Jonathan Horsley
Gravehill rule for a whole bunch of reasons. The Californian alpha-headbangers just have this anything goes attitude to playing gory ol’ school death metal and would just as soon mix in a little hardcore punk and crust feel as they are to bring it down slow and low and meditate upon a doom riff for…
Mitochondrion post demo track “Writhen unto Abraxas”, and it’s pretty gnarly
November 25, 2013 Jonathan Horsley
The Internet is the darnest thing. One minute you could be sifting YouTube to harvest bootlegged footage of metal dudes on cooking shows, the next you could be jamming a new track from band whose oeuvre is every bit as esoteric an experience as seeing Marty Friedman on a Japanese cookery show. Maybe there is…

INTERVIEW: Lantern on debut LP “Below”, Finnish DM, and the new northern darkness
June 3, 2013 Jonathan Horsley
Lantern are a two-man death metal band from Kuopio, Finland, whose debut LP, Below, is the sort of warped and twisted 40-minute head-trip that should be mother’s milk to all those Decibangers who were weaned on the impenetrable darkness of bands such as Demilich and Demigod. Formed by a surprisingly mellow dude with a a…
