Track Premiere: Folian – ‘Go Alone’

January 6, 2020 Emily Bellino
Streaming, Track Premiere Anima, drone, Folian, Post Metal, premiere.

“Go Alone,” the newest offering from Portland-based drone purveyor Folian, thrives in the quiet moments. The second track and first real song on Folian’s new record, Blue Mirror, “Go Alone” will appeal to fans of Neurosis, Cave In and Isis in their quieter moments, moving at a slow-but-deliberate pace.

Spacey guitars and relaxed vocals set the mood for the song, occasionally giving way to thunderous swells of distorted guitars and emotional screams. “Go Alone” also serves as a warm up to the rest of Blue Mirror, which follows a similar mood throughout.

“It is the familiarity of wanting to give in when troubles become too overwhelming to process,” Folian tells Decibel. “You want to hide beneath a blanket of ignorance or simply tune out, not try. This seems like a convenient solution but this will do little to effectively process your pain and find solutions. Consciously experiencing pain and frustration, and allowing yourself to let go, is necessary for moving on.”

Hear Folian’s “Go Alone” below. Blue Mirror is out January 31 on Anima Recordings.
