Black metal collective Befouled Malediction—an offshoot of the larger Ordo Vampyris Orientis collective—will release their debut album, Desperate Necromancy, on October 13. An exploration of the darker, more occult story-focused side of black metal, Desperate Necromancy specifically focuses on a warlock seeking ways to bring his deceased lover back from the dead.
The dark story is matched by the musicianship, which finds heavy inspiration from bands like Sacramentum, Dissection and Arckanum, using bright, almost triumphant, harmonies against bleak synthesizers and heavy black metal. These elements are extremely present on the song “Deliberation,” which you can stream below. The contrasting sounds feel like a sonic representation of the story—the brightness of love and wild hope to reclaim it juxtaposed against the darkness.
Desperate Necromancy will be formally released on November 13 via Ixiol Productions and Dawnbreed Records.
