Five For Friday: November 1, 2024

Greetings, Decibel readers!

Happy Halloween! Well, it’s Halloween as I’m writing this. But as you read this, I hope you had a solid spooky season. If you still have the itch for something dark and menacing, remember that metal records and horror movies are good all-year round.

And with that in mind, please enjoy the selections below.

Crucifixion Ritual – Desecration of the Archangels

Absolute barbaric excellence. This is Crucifixion Ritual‘s followup to their 2021 demo, making this more of a proper debut to the world. And that world is doomed if it faces a band this brutal and devastating.

Gravekvlt – Full Moon Fever

According to the band, Gravekvlt is “a throwback to early 80’s extreme metal, cheap horror movies, with a Rock’n’Roll attitude.” Perfectly timed for spooky season! Or for any time when you want something loud, fast, and evil.

Mitochondrion – Vitriseptome

This is the Mitochondrion‘s third offering of nightmarish blackened death metal. This is the kind of sound that envelopes all around it with walls of guitars, storms of wild drumming, and earthquakes of harsh vocals.

Paganizer – Flesh Requiem

Man, these guys just keep delivering, year after year. Well, multiple times a year, as this is the followup to the band’s EP from last month, Forest of Shub Niggurath. As you might expect, Flesh Requiem is a riff-driven work of death metal melancholy. No frills, no tricks, just pure blistering darkness.

Tribulation – Sub Rosa In Æternum

Get your eyeliner out, Tribulation has a new album! And if you like the way the band has been leaning since they took their leave from pure death metal in the early 2010s, get ready — because the band has fallen into the gothic deep end on this one. But don’t worry about the band’s sound drowning, as this album is simply the culmination of many years of stylistic work coming to fruition.
