Five For Friday: April 7, 2023

Greetings, Decibel readers!

This week brings us a new release from Tribulation. I know lots of you are into them, so that should be enough to get you excited. But you’ll have to scroll down to the bottom to see that. So be sure to give the other bands a chance along the way.

Enjoy!

Asystole – Siren to Blight

Let’s get brutal. Let’s get technical. Let’s get weird. The new album from this New York quintet satisfies all three conditions.

Rotten Sound – Apocalypse

Finland’s resident champions of crusty and violent grindcore are back. The band stands at the gates of Armageddon and lays it all out in a matter-of-fact fashion. Never preachy or self-righteous. Just the plain truth that things are not ok.

Sunrot – The Unfailing Rope

From our resident representative of the avian contingent:

“Want some pure unadulterated sludge? New Jersey’s Sunrot with The Unfailing Rope will not disappoint. Bassist Ross Bradley says: The Unfailing Rope is a document of grief and hope to reflect our current moment. This record was created while we first hand experienced our city come to a reckoning with its people.“ This record seemed cursed at the beginning, recorded no less than three times before this version seemed to resonate with the band.”

Thron – Dust

The fourth full-length release from German devotees of the mid-90s Swedish sound. Every element of that style is present here, all that’s missing is a blue or purple album cover.

Tribulation – Hamaratia EP

Sweden’s champions of gothic metal are back to satiate the thirst of the devoted. The band continues their post-2013 trajectory, the echo of their early days sung through the voice of post-punk, death rock, and all manner of dark arts.
