We’ve featured this hard-working bunch of death grinders from Fargo, ND in this space a couple times over the years (here and here) and given that they kept on keeping on throughout shutdowns and lockdowns and emerged on the other side with new material, we figured we’d again tip our grungy limited edition Napalm Death baseball cap to Gorgatron on the occasion of their latest EP, Angry Reborn.
Set for release November 4th — that’s tomorrow! — the EP, which you can take for a whirl below, is comprised of two new tracks proper and a cover of Sepultura’s “Dead Embryonic Cells” which someone from the band says, “was one of the first fast thrash songs I ever learned way back in the early ‘90s. Arise is still one of my favourite records of all time. We started jamming on it in practice and then did it live and it was always a blast.” This quote isn’t attributed to any one particular member, though in actuality, it’s a quote that could have probably come from any of them, let alone anyone from any band anywhere because “Dead Embryonic Cells” hasn’t stopped ruling since 1991.
About the EP itself, bassist Cameron Dewald says, “This EP is stripped down, raw and grim, especially when compared to our 2020 release, Pathogenic Automation. But that was the point. We spent a lot of time with Pathogenic Automation while simultaneously maintaining a relentless schedule of live gigs. We had finally set up the infrastructure for a consistent touring schedule and festival appearances. However, everything came to a halt in 2020. But we managed to take all that momentum and work ethic and steer it towards this EP. Originally, Agony Reborn was scheduled for a 2021 release, but we were apprehensive due to the ‘current state of affairs’ and uncertainty. Now that the world is back to a state of normalcy, we’re ready to tour and play anytime/anywhere, plus we have a new addition on lead guitar, Coop Schuh and we’re finishing up a new full length!”
