Track Premiere: Rejection Pact – “Indifference Is the Enemy”

There’s something to be said for economy—packing a lot into a little. Boise hardcore quintet Rejection Pact are masters of economy on their latest single, “Indifference Is the Enemy,” which offers listeners a tightly wound and compact punch in just over a minute and a half. And it ain’t just a full-tilt blast. These potato state ragers—Charlie Ritch (drums), Ralph Mugot (bass/vocals), Nate Spann (guitar), Hunter Wahl (guitar), Devin Boudreaux (vocals)—give us a little Muni Waste outrage, a well-placed speed burst and even an elbow-throwing breakdown to close things out. What more do you need?

The track is taken from Rejection Pact’s upcoming 13-track 12″, Can We Wait?, which unsurprisingly clocks in at less than 20 minutes in length. The album was record by Ryan Morgan of Misery Signals at the Tonic Room in Boise, ID in 2021. It was mixed by Taylor Young at the Pit Recording Studio, and mastered by Nick Townsend of Infrasonic Mastering in Los Angeles, CA. It’s set for release on vinyl via Safe Inside Records on November 11. You can preorder it here.

Here’s vocalist Devin Boudreaux’s take on the new track:

“How hard is it to change? To admit you’re wrong, that you don’t know everything, to be vulnerable and be honest? If something isn’t impacting your day to day or isn’t your problem why should you care when you have your own problems? It feels like listening to each other and taking it all in is more trouble than it’s worth.

“‘Indifference is the Enemy’ is about the sheer indifference that so many of us have toward each other. Can’t be bothered, not my problem, accusatory, know it all, don’t believe them, leading with an inherent bias or learned behaviors/stereotypes etc. Being indifferent to others and their situations, and really just how things are, is the enemy of progress—fuck that.”
