New York City black metal outfit Black Anvil are celebrating a Regenesis of their sound on their fifth full-length, challenging their notion of what Black Anvil sounds like and looking toward the future with a back-to-basics songwriting approach. That doesn’t mean that they’ve lost anything, however: on new song “29,” Black Anvil balance savage USBM with epic, melodic passages, building in intensity until it fades out in a single riff.

Regenesis was recorded by Colin Martson at Menegroth, The Thousand Caves, and mixed and mastered by Tore Stjerna at Necromorbus Studio further contributing to Black Anvil’s unmistakable USBM sound. The meaning of the song itself is simple.

“’29’ invokes the trust & willingness of our true Father to guide, foster and ultimately love,” Black Anvil tell Decibel of the new song.

The new release also brings news of an exciting new collaboration: Black Anvil and Wake Brewing will join forces for the Black Anvil Stout, a fermented and wood-aged stout that will be available at Decibel Magazine Metal & Beer Fest: Denver.
