Full Album Stream: Oxygen Destroyer – “Sinister Monstrosities Spawned By the Unfathomable Ignorance of Humankind”

Seattle rippers Oxygen Destroyer are the underground’s premier kaiju-themed band, finding the inspiration for their music in classic monster movies, both American and Japanese. Their new album, Sinister Monstrosities Spawned By the Unfathomable Ignorance of Humankind, is a straight-up death-thrash ripper, the band wearing their old-school influences on their sleeve.

Sinister Monstrosities is loaded with movie samples and comes accompanied by kaiju artwork from Necromogarip, enhancing the low-budget horror feel of the album. Things move at a brisk pace, with thrashy riffs and blast beats driving the album forward, like on mid-album standout “Sons of the Necrobeast.” Oxygen Destroyer really go off  for the album’s last song, the ominously-titled “Their Reign Has Begun,” reaching their highest speeds and dipping into black-thrash territory.

“We wanted the album to sound as relentless and chaotic as the monsters we write about so we looked to our biggest influences from thrash and death metal bands like Vader, Absu, Morbid Saint, Dark Angel and Morbid Angel to inspire us to write our strongest material to date,” Oxygen Destroyer tell Decibel. “We also went for very organic production as we wanted to capture the band exactly how we sound live.

“As you would expect by now, the lyrical themes are inspired by a handful of giant monster movies like The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms, and War of the Gargantuas. These films depict giant city crushing monsters created by the sins of mankind so we do our best to make sure our sound is equally destructive as they are.”

Sinister Monstrosities Spawned by the Unfathomable Ignorance of Humankind is out on August 27 via Redefining Darkness.
