Video Premiere: Teardrinker’s “Hereditary”

It’s a challenging time to be a remotely empathetic human being. Not only do horrific acts like the Cornell frat house rape continue to occur, but they are frequently met with a chorus of defenders.

Fortunately, Teardrinker offers a voice of humanity and solidarity in these dark times. Today, Decibel premieres the music video for their song “Hereditary.”  It’s the centerpiece of the band’s forthcoming album, I Hope This Hurts, and a defiant pushback against sexual violence and the systems that enable it.

“Learning about the long and dense history of violence against women, queer people, and dissenting voices has been mostly empowering. The dark side of all this is the terrifying, miserable, and repetitive cycle of gendered violence,” says vocalist Kimothy Hoorweg. “During the process of studying this, I’d simultaneously be thankful for all the traces of resistance that people have left behind, while crying and grieving their pain and trauma at the same time. We are still facing these same systems of oppression, and sometimes it feels like there is no way out.”

I Hope This Hurts is out Friday, November 13th, via Rotterdam-based label Killjoy Sanctuary in conjunction with Fiadh Productions, available on LP, cassette, and digital formats. Watch the video below and pre-order the album here.
