Track Premiere: Heavy as Texas – ‘Blind’

You might be familiar with Heavy as Texas because of the members in the band. Vocalist Kyle Thomas and guitarist Marzi Montazeri are members of groove progenitors Exhorder (who will be performing THIS WEEKEND at Decibel Magazine Metal & Beer Fest: Philly). Their debut, self-titled album comes out later this month, so Decibel has an exclusive premiere of new Southern-fried, beer-soaked fourth song “Blind,” which highlights both Thomas and Montazeri’s roles in the band.

“Inside of even the best people is an avenue of darkness,” Thomas says. “We drown our sorrows. It fuels bad decisions. The spectacle draws us to it like a moth to the flame. When the slippery slope between good and bad becomes a blurred line, it is our challenge to do what is right—otherwise we are all blind. ‘Blind’ is a pounding, anthemic blend of harmonic unease. Cycling rhythms and chants with a standard rock approach, strings grace the foundation to provide a melodic overlap leading into a runaway locomotive. ‘Blind’ is the consummate example of everything Heavy as Texas has to offer both musically and lyrically.”

Heavy as Texas is out April 19 on Crunchy Western.
