Track Premiere: Duel – ‘Red Moon Forming’

In an interview with Decibel in April 2017, Tom Franks (ex-Scorpion Child), the guitarist and singer of Austin, TX-based heavy rockers Duel, said that his band strives to perfect the sound they laid down on debut album Fears of the Dead. They stuck true to that motto on 2017’s Witchbanger (an album absolutely worth your time) and they’ll do it again on this year’s Valley of Shadows.

The sound in question is a fuzzy, riff-driven brand of retro rock led by crunchy guitars and Frank’s deep register. On new song “Red Moon Forming,” they offer just that alongside deep grooves and a blazing guitar solo.

“‘Red Moon Forming’ is a shit hot new track of the latest album,” Franks declares. “Ripping old-school Thin Lizzy-esque boogie and dueling guitars with all the dark subject matter you would expect from Duel. Evil skeleton armies, ancient curses and demonic possession! What’s not to love?”

Listen to “Red Moon Forming” below. Valley of Shadows is out May 17 on Heavy Psych Sounds.
