Swedish heavy rockers JIRM changed their name from Jeremy Irons & the Ratgang Malibus before announcing new album Surge Ex Monumentis, but that’s not all they did. On Surge Ex Monumentis, JIRM found a sound that’s bigger and better than ever.
Making a noticeable dive into more metallic territory, Surge Ex Monumentis has a healthy psychedelic rock influence but the heavy metal undertones are undeniable. At times, the record seems even to take its inspiration from Pink Floyd as much as from Iron Maiden, a sound you can hear on “The Cultist.”
It won’t be long before the entirety of Surge Ex Monumentis is up for scrutiny. Small Stone will release the album on March 16.
