Split Album Premiere: Creaturess and Sungrave – ‘Sepulchral Echoes’

January 8, 2026 Addison Herron-Wheeler
Exclusive, Streaming Cold Flesh and No One, Creaturess, denver, Post Metal, SUNGRAVE.

Just a year after their debut release, Idyll, Denver post-metal band Sungrave return with a collaborative new EP with Creaturess. Cold Flesh and No One was written, produced, and performed by Sungrave and Creaturess as part of the bands’ joint fall 2025 tour.

“The EP was inspired by the story of Clemantine Wamariya and her sister Claire, who were separated from their family as children during the Rwandan Civil War,” the band explain. “Her experience became a portal through which the songs reflect on the state of a world where rootedness is increasingly tenuous and the very notion of being displaced is often demonized. The story evokes a range of emotions, from heartbreak, to anger, to perseverance—and Cold Flesh and No One encapsulates that intensity.”

A staple in the local Denver scene, SUNGRAVE are all about local community as well as telling a story through music. While they realize slow-build tracks and narrative concepts might not be the algorithm-capture hack to 2026, they would rather wait for those who want to intentionally engage with the music. And for those who take the time to, it’s worth it.

The cover art was painted by Denver-based artist Josh Porter, specifically inspired by the music and concept.  Drums were recorded with Austin Minney at All Aces Studio. Sungrave’s Nick Brazzel mixed the record at Sound In Time Studios and it was mastered by Felipe Patino of Green Door Recordings.
