Sometimes it takes a while to get from point A to point B in the rock world. Swedish trio Bacon Wagon got their start in 2003, released some singles and splits and here we are 22 years later premiering a track, “I-Beam,” from their debut full-length album, Trauma Cake. I don’t think these dudes—Kristoffer Kinberg (bass/vocals), Peter Johansson (drums), Marcus Kinberg (guitar/vocals)—have been, like, working on perfecting these tracks for more than two decades, it’s just that they were playing in other bands, raising families and doing other Swedish stuff. Speaking of families, Kristoffer’s daughter can be heard on this anthemic noise rock rumbler, an ode to workplace tragedies. If ’90s AmRep-style sludge floats your boat, “I-Beam” hits all those gnarled notes.
Trauma Cake was recorded, mixed and mastered by Oliver Dahl at Studio Quaalude, Sweden. It’s set for release on vinyl and digitally via Reptilian Records on June 6. Place your preorder here or here.
Marcus had this to say about the track:
“A song about work-related accidents and recovering from them. It’s partly about an old work colleague that got his head hit by a steel beam and had a stroke from the hit and ended up being paralyzed. All three band members are craftsmen and have had our share of work-related mishaps which are baked in the lyrics. This song has additional cheerleading vocals by Kristoffer’s daughter, Elsa. Enjoy the feeling of getting hurt!”
