Five For Friday: November 11, 2022

Greetings, Decibel readers!

If you need a boost of energy for this weekend, the albums below have all the power you seek. Whether it’s in the form of blistering tech-death, ripping death-thrash, or a re-manufactured take on industrial death (you see what I did there?), the wattage is maxed out in every way. Alternatively, if you just want something dark and epic, there’s a new Kampfar album out today as well. Options!

Enjoy!

Bonecarver – Carnage Funeral

Brain-scrambling insanity from the label that specializes in it. As always with Unique Leader bands, the insanity is delivered with razor-sharp precision, in a manner that recalls Behemoth‘s tech-death era in this case.

Detherous – Unrelenting Malevolence

Fantastic death-thrash … or thrash-death? One or the other depending on how it hits you. Great stuff if you’re into Kreator, Dark Angel, Death Angel and Morbid Saint, but served with a side of Abominations of Desolation-era Morbid Angel and, naturally, Angelcorpse. When people say something “rips,” they mean something like this.

Kampfar – Til klovers takt

Among the many second-tier Norwegian black metal bands, Kampfar has long been known for quality and consistency. This reputation should remain intact on their latest album, delivering the goods in terms of riffs, atmosphere, and folk vibes while never sliding into the realm of cheese and cheap gimmicks.

Lamentations – Passion of Depression

Epic, muscular death metal with heroic guitars and progressive flourishes. Some of the flute-laden acoustic passages even recall Empyrium in subtle ways. There’s a lot going on here.

Snipers of Babel – Gabriel

Industrial-strength dystopian death metal. It was only a matter of time before the Fear Factory sound would have its resurgence, and what a better time than now?
