Always one step ahead of the curve, Norway’s Ulver issued the video for new song, “Russian Doll,” today. It just so happens to be Valentine’s Day, which scrapes against the song’s desperate and dark underbelly like a smooth helping of Gotiņa. The fact that this pop-heavy song is informed by Lukas Moodysson’s human trafficking film, Lilja 4 ever, paints an interesting picture as the dancer in the video, Annija Raibekaze, pops and locks in her Bergtatt t-shirt and Coil-emblazoned leather jacket. Clearly, Ulver are poking several bears here while also observing the horrors laid out in the Moodysson film.
