What the Heck is an Unsplit? Total Fucking Destruction and Analkholic have Answers

The funny thing about this forthcoming release from Total Fucking Destruction and Analkholic courtesy the good folks at Give Praise Records is that what appears to have been the most difficult part was deciding on how to refer to it. Which is pretty crazy when you consider the geography separating its participants and the nature of it. It’s not quite a split, not quite a collaboration and definitely not a standalone release by or from either band. After much deliberation and even a consultation with yours truly, the decision was made to go with calling this release an “Unsplit.” Here’s TFD drummer Rich Hoak with details concerning what exactly the hell is going on here:

“I live for making crazy grind and over-the-top noise, and also for wild partying/communicating with interesting artists and extreme music people all over the world. That’s what making music is about; it’s what I did with Brutal Truth and what I do with Total Fucking Destruction. When I heard there was a band called Analkholic that lives and plays grind on the island of New Caledonia, I thought, ‘Fuck how extreme, to make such intense music in such a wild place. It reminded me of when I was in Brutal Truth and heard there was an (awesome and soon to be reformed) band called Groinchurn from South Africa. It amazes me that extreme underground music is able to unite such unlikely and out of the way people and places. I wanted make a split with TFD and Analkholic, but I was also thinking about a way to kick it louder and harsher. I remembered that Seth [Putnam] and A.C. did some release back in the day where they mixed together all their songs into one track. It was a blur, a barrage, but it made musical sense. We decided to go for that vibe with ‘Attack of the Infected.’ The song is actually made of two different songs, ‘Attack of the Supervirus 2020’ by TFD and ‘Infected Propulsive Colon’ by Analkholic, mastered permanently together by [TFD bassist/vocalist] Ryan Moll. There’s a little bit of stereo balance, but it is impossible to listen to each song totally on its own; they are and will be unreleased as separate tunes. The two songs are as one, attached at birth: brutal and noisy, but pure music as well. And props go out to Paul and the Give Praise Records crew for taking a chance on something different and for putting in the work to make it a free/pay-what-you-want release. Enjoy, support your local grind freaks wherever the hell on this planet you are and please listen LOUD!!!”

When asked their thoughts on the matter at hand, the ‘Unsplit’s other participants had this to say:

“We are from the French island nation of New Caledonia and have been doing noisy stuff since 2011. Analkholic is made up of two friends [bassist/vocalist Beer Belly and a drum machine round out the lineup] who are unleashing a powerful sound from several years of booze and weed! We fuckers play with a drum machine since the start because we desire to do something ever more fast and extreme. Always fast and extreme. When we wrote the song ‘Propulsive Infected Colon’ we never knew that a band like the ultra-blasting sickos from Total Fucking Destruction would be interested in/infected by our music. It’s such a great opportunity to work with guys like them. Thanx to all of you guys who trust in our band since all this time. Thanx to TFD & Decibel. –Analkholic guitarist/vocalist Danger Fitch

“While it is always a pleasurable trip down grindcore lane to work with Hoak and Total Fucking Destruction, this ‘Unsplit’ release is a totally new experience. Give Praise Records has released many split 7”s over the years, but this is our first ‘Unsplit’ release. ‘Attack of the Infected’ is a totally new format for me, Analkholic is a totally new and awesome band for the label and we are totally psyched to be able to smash the eardrums of the worldwide metal scene. -Give Praise Records label president Paul Sunderland
