“Geistaz’ika is the eradication of the flesh and the evocation of the spirit. A submission to darkness where the tormented creatures of the night howl their laments for all who make the voyage into the seething cauldron of the forest.”
That’s the opening statement from mysterious Danish black metallers Geistaz’ika. For all its proclamations of what Geistaz’ika is and what a spin through Trolddomssejd I Skovens Dybe Kedel will do to the listener, the Danes sort of have a point. Trolddomssejd I Skovens Dybe Kedel is a call to simpler, more black/white times, when black metal’s expression didn’t ask for interpretation or disambiguation. Black metal, of the Nordic variety, was what it was. Geistaz’ika aims to reinstall that aesthetic in a world of post-whatever or non-black black metal. Geistaz’ika is black metal, harsh, cold, and, at times, arboreal.
Decibel and Portuguese indie Signal Rex have teamed up to premiere the CD/LP version of Geistaz’ika’s searing debut, Trolddomssejd I Skovens Dybe Kedel. Originally, Trolddomssejd I Skovens Dybe Kedel was released digitally by Danish small-timer Afgrundsvisioner (Draug, Múspellzheimr) back in December 2018. So, roll back time, pull out the black candles, assume a nom de guerre, take super-low contrast photos on an analog camera, and point dangerously to the heavens, for Geistaz’ika have arrived…
** Geistaz’ika’s new album, Trolddomssejd I Skovens Dybe Kedel, is out August 30th on Signal Rex. Pre-orders are not yet available but keep tuned to Signal Rex’s store (HERE) or order digitally direct from the Danes on Bandcamp (HERE). You die if you don’t try!
