Last week, we told you about Glory or Death Records’ Bow to Your Masters cover series, which showcases tributes to bands that “laid the foundation for all the great rock and metal in the world today.” Volume one is loaded with killer Thin Lizzy covers, but this the album’s greatest triumph is its closing track: Grammy-winning stoner metal gods High on Fire covering “Vagabonds of the Western World,” the title track from Thin Lizzy’s 1993 opus.
High on Fire give it a healthy dose of volume and put their signature sound on it, led by Matt Pike’s rumbling vocals. It fits perfectly as the closing song on an album featuring artists like Mothership, Duel, Mouths of Thieves and Gygax, summing up the record charm in a powerful, loud way.
