Track Premiere: Restless Spirit – ‘Ripped From Me’

New York doom crew Restless Spirit are gearing up for two things: the release of the impending release of their new album, Lord of the New Depression, their first under the name Restless Spirit—you may know the band as their former identity, Death Metal Pope—and an upcoming tour with Ether, which will take both bands on a quick Northeast run. Lord of the New Depression is still awaiting an official release date, but Decibel has the lowdown on new track “Ripped From Me” to whet your appetite.

Lord of the New Depression was mixed by Twitching Tongues guitarist/vocalist (and Nails drummer) Taylor Young, something that shows in the production and overall sound of “Ripped From Me,” which has a rock ‘n’ roll swing to its heavy doom.

“‘Ripped From Me’ is a track from our upcoming full length titled Lord of The New Depression which will be out sometime in 2019,” Restless Spirit relayed to Decibel. “It’s a song about loss, regret, and blame. The entire album tells a story revolving around this; it’s inspired by a number of very real and tragic events from our personal lives.

“Lyrically, this song is one of the more pessimistic ones, but it’s based around a more energetic feel. We tried to create something that contains both solid riffs and catchy choruses inspired by the music we grew up with.”
