Belgian sludge quartet 30,000 Monkies know how to have fun while they rock out. Nothing makes that more clear than the video for “Tom Wanxxx,” which Decibel is streaming below. As far as we can tell, the video revolves around a game of table tennis… in space.
“We came up with the idea behind the Starrrrrrrring EP when naming our previous full length, I Ate Myself to Grow Twice as Big,” guitarist/vocalist Ruben Savelkoul says. Struggling to find a name for that project, even after we recorded it, we started joking about ridiculous punny titles like Orlando Doom and Keanu Riffs. That didn’t really suit the album we recorded, but since we are really into implementing ridiculous ideas, we decided we needed to make an EP to fit the titles we came up with. Stuck to the plan, wrote the songs and recorded them.
“It was immediately clear that we needed a video for ‘Tom Wanxxx,’ to please all the people with a short attention span (maybe also because there was no budget). Please approach it with an open mind. My momma always said: ‘life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you gonna get.'”
