Watch: Thera Roya – ‘Static Transmission’

September 29, 2017 Emily Bellino
Videos New York, Post Metal, Sludge Metal, thera roya, video.

New York sludge/post-metal trio Thera Roya released their latest EP, Masterful Universe, in September but no release is complete without a weird-but-wonderful music video… right? That’s exactly what Thera Roya are channeling on “Static Transmission,” the first of the two songs on Masterful Universe.

The video features clips that range from magic and occult to standard live footage to clips of the band eating. It seems random, but Thera Roya say it’s all part of the plan.

“‘Static Transmission’ is some strange universe we created,” they explain. “I had these ‘plot points’ (funny to call dudes eating sandwiches plot points..) and we hit them all. I hope viewers get a sense of the absurd and I love that it’s a short film at 7 minutes plus. We had a great crew and director/editor so we stretched for outlandish shit and I think achieved the goal.”
