Full EP Stream: Worst Ones – ‘Is It Worth It?’

Philadephia heavy alternative crew Worst Ones have drawn influences from pretty much everywhere on the heavy music spectrum to create Is It Worth It?, their brand-new EP. Starting off with the Melvins-esque “Human Hair,” Is It Worth It? dabbles in sludge, doom, goth, industrial and fuzzed-out punk. Singer/guitarist Drew Ew’s vocals fall somewhere between a whine and a snarl; combined with the band’s instrumental sound, it wouldn’t be hard to believe Is It Worth It? is a never-released Sub Pop title from their heyday.

The subject matter covered on the EP is pretty heavy too. Worst Ones tell Decibel that they wrote the track “Human Hair” based on real-life experiences.

“‘Human Hair’ is a true story of my life dealing with someone I cared about spiraling out of control with drug addiction and all the lying and delusions that come along with that. I couldn’t help them and anyone they were around wasn’t helping either. After a while they became a “missing person.” I wasn’t close with them anymore by this time but a lot of people reached out to me with concern because I was the last person they were close to, but I had no idea what was going on. It set off this flood of different emotions for me. I don’t know what they’re up to now but they aren’t dead.”

Is It Worth It? is available digitally from the band via Bandcamp.
