W.A.S.P.’s 1984 Debut LP Enters the Decibel Hall of Fame

W.A.S.P.‘s 1984 self-titled debut is the latest induction to Decibel’s vaunted “Hall of Fame” series. The heavy metal touchstone – famous for classics “I Wanna Be Somebody” and “Animal (Fuck Like a Beast)” – was the main target of the PMRC 30 years ago.

“We found out the reason the PMRC went after us is because kids knew who we were,” frontman Blackie Lawless tells Decibel. “That’s how they work. They go after bands that have visibility. They make it their mission to bring bands down, but I don’t think they were very successful. To this day, what they did was get more kids into music than had they not said a thing. ”
