Greetings, Decibel readers!
I did myself a solid last weekend and finally watched the 1980 horror classic, Maniac. I have to admit, I went into the film oblivious about all the particulars of the plot. I had no idea it was going to take place in New York City or what the antagonist’s particular … uh … proclivities were and how the film would explore them. All I’m going to say is, the film is worth a watch simply for that shotgun scene alone.
Ok, before I start spilling spoilers, here’s some new music.

Heads for the Dead – Never Ending Night of Terror
A perfectly-timed release for spooky season. Horror-obsessed death metal steeped in the style of bands like Grave and Entombed, but with a touch of Vader and Exhumed as well. It’s a crunchy, grinding sort of death metal, but with lots of atmosphere added to give it that added horror movie feel.

Testament – Para Bellum
Never mind their status as elder statesmen, Testament is determined to keep creating music like they’re just starting out. Although this album undeniably has moments that recall albums like Practice What You Preach and Souls of Black, it sounds fresh and thrilling on its own terms.

Wode – Uncrossing the Keys
Wode made their name over the years as masters of flowing, dynamic black metal. And now they’ve taken their skills and taken an axe to their template, slashing it into heavy metal and melodic death metal chunks. Hack away, boys, whatever you’re doing is working!
