Xorsist‘s new track is kind of like steak ordered extra rare. But in this case it’s HM2-style Swedish death metal ordered with extra blood! The music is played with a clear and resolute purpose: devotion to the classic sounds of Carnage, Nihilist/Entombed, Into the Grave-era Grave and so on. Of course, the metal world is practically swamped with bands who do this now, but Xorsist does it with such panache and songwriting chops that you just can’t resist how good they are. The riffs here are fantastic, and the vocals offer enough variation and character to keep you interested.
I also like how vocalist/guitarist Gustav Ryderfelt describes it:
“Offering another kind of intensity compared to our first single, “Blessed by the Divine,” “Coterie of the Depraved” had a slightly different approach. Through vivid imagery, metaphorical lyricism and emotional depth, it draws listeners into a world of introspection. The consistent rhythm combined with mesmerizing rawness create a musical tapestry that lingers in the mind. With its uncompromising exploration of the battle between conformity and personal truth, it works as a compelling continuation to the profound musical odyssey that awaits within At the Somber Steps To Serenity.”
