WAYFARER Stream Siouxsie and the Banshees cover, “Night Shift,” via the Decibel Flexi Series

Colorado USBM outlaws Wayfarer are about to begin recording one of Decibel’s Top 20 Most Anticipated Albums of 2023. The record will surface later this year via Profound Lore and Century Media but, like you, we didn’t want to wait that long for a new Wayfarer release, so we kindly asked them to record a track for the Decibel Flexi Series. That submission? A cover of Siouxsie and the Banshees’ 1981 classic “Night Shift.”

“We saw the opportunity to do something out-of-the-box with this Flexi single, as our favorites of these often are,” says Wayfarer guitarist/vocalist Shane McCarthy. “So we dug back pretty far to an artist that has not only been an influence on us, but also, to many of the artists that formed after SATB, and later become some of our foremost influences themselves. There is still nothing quite like them.

“This is a song I personally have always loved for its unrelenting feeling and haunting atmosphere, and brought it into our own world with the approach to the parts and instrumentation. We aimed to honor the original by being ourselves with our take on it. It’s such a powerful and harrowing little gothic horror tale that feels just as at home in the eternal dusk of the American West as the streets of Yorkshire. Dedicated to a true original, this is our Night Shift.”

“Night Shift” will not be included on the band’s forthcoming LP of all new material, but you can stream it below and then head off to the dB store where we have an extremely limited amount of the issues containing the Wayfarer flexi available.
