New Jersey quartet Massa Nera recently released one of the year’s best screamo albums in the form of Derramar | Querer | Borrar, their second album. In many ways, Massa Nera aren’t too far from bands like Orchid, City of Caterpillar or Saetia, taking an aggressive, direct approach to the genre with added post-rock and emo flourishes.
Massa Nera have long been one of the region’s best-kept secrets outside of their scene, but now is as good a time as any to jump on board with the video for “Eyeless Faces,” which you can watch below. The performance video is nothing you haven’t seen before, but it’s shot well and with a sense of creativity. Musically, the song is a straight ripper; Massa Nera start off in a sea of feedback and screaming and end on a sharp, sudden note, jamming plenty of breakneck playing into two-and-a-half minutes.
