2020 isn’t stopping metalcore bruisers Matriarchs. The Los Angeles-based outfit released a full-length, titled Year of the Rat, in October on Upstate Records but they’re already back with “Slave City,” a brand new single that picks up where the album left off.
Inspired by ’90s NYHC and modern English beatdown, Matriarchs keep things simple: fat, chugging riffs and bouncing drums serve as the backdrop for vocalist K Enagonio’s confrontational, aggressive screams. There’s a punk sensibility on “Slave City,” both in Enagonio’s rebellious lyrics and in the faster parts of the song.
Check out the video for “Slave City” below and listen to Year of the Rat, featuring such guests as ex-Volumes vocalist Myke Terry and Emmure frontman Frankie Palmeri, on Upstate Records’ Bandcamp.
