Full EP Stream: Siculicidium ‘A Halál És Az Iránytű’

Siculicidium

Siculicidium are relative unknowns in the field of black metal. Even black metal from Eastern Europe, where it still rings true, aren’t quite sure what’s up with Siculicidium, who draw inspiration from the grand masters like Master’s Hammer, Root, Beherit, Bathory, and Tormentor but also find the darkness in 16 Horsepower, Fields of the Nephilim, and local folk music appropriate for inclusion. Over the course of Siculicidium’s two full-lengths — Utolsó Vágta Az Univerzumban (2009) and Hosszú Út Az Örökkévalóságba (2013) — the terrifying twosome in Siculicidium have continued to awe, inspired, and startle. The group’s uncompromising yet unorthodox approach feels distinctly Eastern European, where the witches still cry after midnight and the forests whisper dangerous things to unwanted trespassers.

Says Lugosi Béla: “A Halál És Az Iránytű translated to “The Death & The Compass” is the brand new concept EP after three years from the previous Land Beyond the Forest 12-inch LP, which introducing the new full-length album, a short but intense story about the death and the beyond, a strange journey in the underworld, the full story will be told on the next album. The gates are open let the journey continue!

“The title and the story was inspired by the short story of Jorge Luis Borges, but this is not a detective story.

“Our destiny… is not frightful by being unreal; it is frightful because it is irreversible and iron-clad. Time is the substance I am made of. Time is a river which sweeps me along, but I am the river; it is a tiger which destroys me, but I am the tiger; it is a fire which consumes me, but I am the fire.”

Of Siculicidium’s new EP A Halál És Az Iránytű is yet another step into the mysticism and danger of Eastern European hinterlands. The two-track EP is only available as a 7-inch (and streaming here) from long-time label Sun & Moon Records (see below for the link). So, it’s with great honor that Decibel gets to premiere A Halál És Az Iránytű in all its two-song glory. As they say in Romania: “A-ți pica fisa.” Yes, we’re with you Lugosi Béla and Pestifer. Yes, we are.
