In lieux of profiling an individual band this week, I’ve decided to use this mighty platform to promote a festival being run by Gabe Sutton of the equally-mighty Bay Area grind-fiends Concussive. Gabe is putting together a festival called Zesta Grande! The festival, despite its name, will not feature Ariana Grande but does feature a stellar lineup of grind/powerviolence bands including Yacopsae, ACxDC, Cave State, Stimulant, Godstomper, Syntax, World Peace, Fiend, Sulfuric Cautery and many, many more.
Tickets are already on sale via Brown Paper Bag and the festival itself will be held at the legendary 924 Gilman Street, you know, the place where Green Day got their start! ZG will take place May31-June 2, so if you’re a brave soul, you can easily squeeze this fest in a week after you yearly MDF pilgrimage.
Last month I was lucky enough to experience some live Grind/Pv shows on the west coast and to a born-and-bred east coaster, I can honestly say I was incredibly impressed with the enthusiasm and genuine passion I witnessed while I was out there. Powerviolence was born on the west coast and I dare say that they are still the only ones who do it right. Zesta Grande is an event not to be missed!
