Pairing & Killing: Deafheaven and Broken Goblet

Whether you’re losing your shit over “Black Brick,” possibly the heaviest Deafheaven song recorded to date, or still mad about the pink album cover from 2013, it’s impossible to deny the rapid ascent the post-black quintet are on. In addition to a direct support slot for Triptykon at Decibel Magazine Metal & Beer Fest: Philly, presenting brewery Broken Goblet collaborated with Deafheaven to brew Life Beyond is a Field, an ale brewed with tea and inspired by “Honeycomb,” a single from last year’s Ordinary Corrupt Human Love.

“I found that song to be raw and so textured and the lyrics go from really light and colorful to darker and more ominous, and it talks about glowing lagoons and sunflower stems. The whole thing just came together, flavor-wise, artwork, everything,” Broken Goblet owner Mike LaCouture says.

Life Beyond is a Field was brewed with white tea blend in addition to sunflower seeds and petals, a fitting pairing to Deafheaven’s January 2019 cover shoot (only three dollars through midnight Sunday!).

The limited brew will be available at Decibel Magazine Metal & Beer Fest: Philly on April 13 and 14 and at Broken Goblet’s new location when it opens in the spring. An extremely-limited number of “Metal & Beer” tickets remain!
