Decibel Meter: Of Death Metal Tours and Non-Death Metal Albums

Many old-school-death-metal-worshiping moons ago, we announced our partnership with f.y.e. for the Decibel Meter, a monthly collection featured both online and in store to make sure the face-melting, skull-crushing, brain-cell-smashing releases you need can be found in one place. This month’s Decibel Meter coincides with our March 2019 issue, focusing on an unprecedented monster of a death metal tour, as Cannibal Corpse and Morbid Angel have been devastating venues across the US together for the first time; and brought Immolation, Blood Incantation, and Necrot along for the blood-soaked ride.

This month’s collection isn’t a death-metal-club-only affair though. In fact, quite the opposite as it spans the extreme metal pantheon: included are The Heretics by Greek black metal pioneers Rotting Christ; Holy Mountain from stoner essential Sleep; the Grammy-winning Electric Messiah from modern stoner titan High on Fire; The Door to Doom from epic doom originator Candlemass (featuring Epicus vocalist Johan Langquist!); and Songs for the Dead Live a new live release from no-introduction-needed King Diamond. This month isn’t all classics though: newer names include debuts from both Altitudes & Attitude (featuring Frank Bello of Anthrax and David Ellefson of Megadeth) and Avantasia (side project of Edguy vocalist Tobias Sammet), as well as metalcore maintsays All That Remains, and white belt revivalists Wristmeetrazor.

For the vinyl junky, this month’s exclusives at f.y.e include Dream Theater‘s Distance Over Time in exclusive brown variant, Disturbed‘s Evolution in clear and Nikki Six‘s harrowing The Heroin Diaries in exclusive partial audio book vinyl.
