Californian outfits Squalus and Shadow Limb joined forces for a progressive, forward-thinking sludge split with Mass and Power, a seven-track epic dedicated to the watery creatures dwelling beneath the ocean’s surface. Squalus—featuring current and former members of Khôrada, Giant Squid and Grayceon—offer four tracks, marked by progressive, bright melodies that contrast with massive sludge that crashes down like a wave upon the shore.
Shadow Limb, for their side, dwell more in the style of progressive sludge rock. Mathy guitars and odd time signatures do battle with crushing, riff-driven rock; it’s an ideal pairing with Squalus, whose Jaws-themed heaviness gels perfectly with Shadow Limb’s three songs.
“We are very excited that Mass and Power is out in the world!” exclaims Shadow Limb bassist Mike Crew. “The guys in Squalus have been great friends of ours for many years. We’re beyond honored to release this split with them, especially on such an amazing label like Translation Loss! Thanks for listening!”
Mass and Power is out tomorrow via Translation Loss.
