Full Album Stream: Microwaves Get Around “Via Weightlessness”

I don’t know a whole lot about Pittsburgh’s Microwaves despite their being around since 2000 and having an impressive and prolific discography that shows off their revulsion of musical commonalities, regularity and anything ordinary. The noise loving, patience shredding trio had as an original member, Steve Moore (now of Zombi fame) and was brought to my attention by Justin Pearson, he of Swing Kids, Retox, Dead Cross and the Locust amongst others and given the circuit breaking smash up of impenetrable no-wave, angular hardcore slashing and corrupted math rock, it’s no wonder Pearson is a fan. And it’s no surprise he’s releasing the band’s latest album, Via Weightlessness on his Three One G label.

To celebrate the album’s release – which is tomorrow! – we’re streaming the whole beast below and allowing you to get lost in the sonic barbed wire and fun house mirror quality of the band’s outsider art. Guitarist/vocalist David Kuzy has this to say about the forthcoming album: “Even though we have been around a long time, this is only the second lineup to make more than one record and it’s actually the longest running lineup. I like all of our other records, but I think this lineup’s output is more consistent.” Added drummer John Roman: “So far, working with Three One G has been nothing but positive and I’m excited to see where this leads. Of course, for all I know, this could lead us straight into a ditch, but it’s pretty exciting stuff, regardless. This is still anyone’s game, homeboy.”
