Crawl self-identifies as “D-beat death metal” and on the unrelenting, fantastically brutal Rituals — out next month via Transcending Obscurity — the Swedish quartet deliver on that cross-subgenre promise about as viciously and perfectly as any discerning extreme music fan could reasonably hope.
“Rituals is an album about nothing more than a D-beat assault that combines all elements of death and a nihilistic approach to life,” guitarist/bassist M. Sjögren tells Decibel. “Basically an anti-life experience with hard riffing, heavy beats and furious vocals. If you ask us this is death metal combined with punk done the right way. Reject the cross!”
