It’s hard to believe that Convulsions of a Dying Empire is the debut effort from Bay Area duo Hatchets for Hands. A remarkably well-balanced blend of melodic death metal, thrash and even heavy metal, Convulsions reflects the best parts of each style it pulls from. Soaring melodies, galloping and neck-snapping riffs and compact songwriting are on display here, making Convulsions of a Dying Empire an excellent introduction to a band that is hopefully just getting started.
