2017 was a very strong year for grindcore and powerviolence. Every month seemingly bestowed upon us a bevy of blast beats, some of which will remain in regular rotation on record players for years to come. One of those releases was WVRM’s Can You Hear The Wind Howl? The South Carolina outfit’s EP didn’t necessarily expand on their grind/doom formula too much but rather succinctly coalesced everything awesome about the band into six songs: misanthropic and bludgeoning guitar riffs that alternate between ferocious blasts and caveman beatdowns all topped with lyrics and vocals that channel utter misanthropic disgust. It’s fair to say that I was a fan, which is why I included the album in my top 10 of 2017.
Lo and behold, the band now have decided to grace us with a music video for the title track to the album, “Can You Hear The Wind Howl?” Third world riot footage is spliced with footage from a live performance to add to the already potent brew of dystopian discord presented by the song itself. Now might be a good time to start paying attention to these guys:
