Track Premiere: Nullingroots – ‘Subsistence’

With a band name like Nullingroots—explained by founding member and guitarist/vocalist Cameron Boesch as “to commit suicide, to nullify one’s identity, their roots as a person”—the music needs to reach into a dark part of the human condition. The blackgaze trio does just that on their new song “Subsistence,” coming from their album Into the Grey which will be released via Prosthetic Records on November 17.

“Subsistence” leans on the dreaminess of shoegaze to counter Boesch’s blackened screams and spurts of blast beats; the juxtaposition underscores the themes of depression and darkness.
