Typically the kind of alcoholic beverages we cover in this column have four ingredients—barley, hops, water and yeast—and rhyme with “ear.” But we couldn’t pass up this collaboration called Goat’s Blood between Delaware’s Brimming Horn Meadery and death metal heroes and Decibel Hall of Famers Incantation.
Mead is an ancient fermented beverage that uses honey, as well as various fruits, to kick-start the fermentation. It’s probably closer to a wine (as it is typically bottled at wine strength), but it also may be brewed with spices and hops, like beer. According to Brimming Horn, this is the first collab between a metal band and a meadery.
Incantation bassist Chuck Sherwood had this to say about Goat’s Blood: “[We’re] proud to announce the unveiling of this limited-edition collaboration to you devoted fiends—a first ever mead and metal collaboration! It’s a libation of grapes, honey and cherries, whose dark crimson color inspired its name: Goat’s Blood! Join us in raising a mighty hail to metal and the brotherhood that we share with all of you.”
Less than 300 500ml bottles were made, and the 10 that were personally autographed by the band are sold out. However, some of the 66 bottles that were hand-numbered remain, as well as the regular bottling of 200.
