Last week, we expanded upon our Finnish metal issue with two new Swallow the Sun videos (from their forthcoming triple album, Songs from the North) and some commentary by keyboard player Aleksi Munter. If you did not check out the Songs I video (“Heartstrings Shattering”) or the Songs II video (“Pray for the Winds to Come”), you need to get on those ASAP.
In the spirit of the band’s gargantuan new masterpiece, we decided to give the band three times the blog space in the three weeks leading up to the album’s release. This week, you get a sneak peek (okay, a nine-minute stare) at one of the crushing hymns from Songs III. Here’s what Munter had to say about the third section of the album:
“Disc 3 is a very personal exploration into our most oppressive and depressing material. We’ve done this sort of slow and long stuff before, like “Doomed to Walk the Earth” from Hope, but never this unforgiving and bleak. On this one we held nothing back, and thus it was extremely entertaining to work on, and is at the moment probably my favorite out of the three.”
