For Those About to Squawk: Waldo’s Pecks of the Week VI

Every Friday (or, um, Monday), Waldo the African Grey Parrot, frontbird of thrash-grind immortals Hatebeak, will get you caught up on the week’s latest “extreme” releases.
Not a whole lot is going on again this week. 2011 looks a little promising with some releases, although there are also going to be some terrible ones. Victory is putting out the worst band on the planet (with the exception of Gay for Johnny Depp), Dr. Acula. If you’re not tired of the “joke” in the band name (R.I.P. Mitch Hedberg), you’ll be tired of living when you hear “Slander.” This will prove to be an utter piece of birdshit. Fuck this.

There’s rumor there will be a new Gridlink, which will rule, and the Agoraphobic Nosebleed/Despise You split promises to be fucking awesome. Willowtip will release Maruta’s Forward to Regression; these 16 tracks should crush In Narcosis. Other things that your fine feathered friend is looking forward to are Cursed by Rotten Sound, a full-length by Noisear, and Rabbits (ex-Angel Hair and Pleasure Forever). Devourment are due for another full-length… can’t wait to peck someone’s eyes out and lift some weights while listening to this. Johnny X is at it again, bringing Boston’s Psycho back; not that there’s a REAL need for Pain Addict Pigs, but it is a pretty cool page in history and will at least show these new jacks how it IS done and how it WAS done. The roster of splits alone is enough to pay attention to them.

If you haven’t been living in cage like me, you probably have heard or read some of the internet hullabaloo about Magrudergrind and Scion Records. Whether you think they sold out or not, Crusher will be awesome. This band just gets better with age. And, in one bird brain’s opinion, it’s pretty cool that Scion is popping for this to be a free download.

Just briefly wanted to touch on some of the releases of 2010 really that tickled my feathers. Misery Index’s Heirs to Thievery was the band’s strongest effort yet. Father Befouled brought the old-school death with Morbid Destitution of Covenant. Encoffination tore it the fuck up on the Ritual Ascension Beyond Flesh LP, and Diocletian killed it with War of All Against All. And don’t forget about the Williowtip reissue of Grief’s Come to Grief, a must-have.

Well, that’s all, beakfucks. I’ll squawk at you next year.
