It feels like something of a curse to name your 2019 album Uncertain Times given the events that transpired mere months later, but Midnight Prey have recovered from any psychic damage caused and rallied to release Jenseitsritt, their second full-length. The Germans fly the banner of traditional speed and heavy metal with a little hard rock in the vocals, playing songs that instantly feel a little timeless.
Guitarist/vocalist Winston Ziller is the star of the Midnight Prey show, with his upbeat playing driving the whole affair. He also has a very recognizable vocal style, which sets him apart from legions of Halford and Dickinson imitators. Speaking about Jenseitsritt, Midnight Prey tell Decibel:
“Our goal with Jenseitsritt was to transform the energy of our live performances into a studio recording. Not bound by genre, we strive for raw and uncompromising sound that comes from the heart. No pedalboards, no samples. An unapologetic answer to short-lived, boring, overproduced bands. A melancholic Christopher-Street-Day at nighttime.”
