Full Album Stream: Perfidious – “Savouring His Flesh”

Italian death dealers Perfidious took their time on Savouring His Flesh, their follow-up to their 2017 debut LP, Malevolent Martyrdom. At a lean eight tracks (plus intro), Savouring His Flesh revels in Perfidious’ mastery of old-school death metal, sharp, buzzsaw riffs leading the charge.

Perfidious wear their influences on their collective sleeve, providing a familiar take on old-school death metal a la Cannibal Corpse, Vomitory and Deicide. “Savouring His Flesh From The Cross” and “Infernal Vengeance (Jesus Dead)” sound, in many ways, like they were started in 1989.

“Seven years after Malevolent Martyrdom, Savouring His Flesh has finally arrived,” Perfidious tell Decibel. “The album experienced a long period of gestation due to continuous lineup changes within the band, and the Covid period certainly didn’t help either. Once stability was found, the process of writing new tracks began, and we aimed to continue along the path set by the previous album, while incorporating the influences of the new members.

“This album is heavily influenced by old-school death metal but in a way it strives to stay current with its sound. ‘We’re not here to prove anything to anyone. We play death metal, so let’s write a death metal record!’ That’s what we told ourselves when we started working on this new music, and it’s the same thing we say every time we perform.
The new members have brought a fresh perspective to our formula, breathing new life into the sound while maintaining the raw intensity that has always defined us. Despite the challenges of the pandemic and lineup shifts, we hope this album represents a return to form, showcasing all our dedication to our craft.”

His flesh will be officially served on October 25 by Time to Kill Records, but you can listen to the album in advance via Decibel.
