From the shadowy depths of New Orleans emerges Herakleion, a death thrash trio determined to drag the genre back to its roots while exploring the morbid curiosity that haunts us all. Fresh off a tour with Goatwhore, Vitriol, and Thantifaxath, Herakleion is poised to unleash their upcoming EP, Necroverse, on September 13. This release offers a raw, unfiltered slab of metal that defies modern conventions, embracing the analog spirit of the past.
The EP’s first single, “The Tomb,” set the stage with its slower, deliberate pacing and was inspired by the classic horror story of the same name. Today, we’re thrilled to premiere the second single from the EP, ‘Blood of Nessus.’
“The track tells the tragic tale of a demigod’s fall from immortality, which intertwines seamlessly with Herakleion’s exploration of the blurred line between life and death,” says guitarist and vocalist Apollo Xydias. Drummer Speed Wilson elaborates, “It was the last song completed for the record and solidified the sonic direction and lyrical journey of the EP as a whole.”
Recorded live to tape at Sonic Ranch Studios under the meticulous eye of producer Pete deBoer (Blood Incantation, Devil Master), Necroverse embodies the band’s commitment to capturing the primal energy of a live performance. “We didn’t want to use any digital or computer assistance at all,” Wilson notes. “The record needed to sound like a band, not a collection of perfectly placed blocks.”
Necroverse is a journey into the dark corners of existence, where the boundary between life and death becomes a blur. Thematically, it delves into the human fascination with mortality, standing out as a bold statement in a metal landscape that is too often content with digital perfection. The EP will be available in physical formats here (CD, LP, cassette) and digitally here.
