Full Album Stream: Last Legion – ‘Metall, Blod & Aska’

Keep Google Translate handy for the debut album, Metall, Blod & Aska, from Swedish black/death thrash quartet Last Legion. Unless of course you’re fluent in Swedish. (No, watching the Swedish Chef on YouTube doesn’t count.) This eight-track, 35-minute scorcher is all Swedish, all the time. You can probably at least ascertain what the lyrical content and general theme of the album from the title (Metal, Blood & Ashes) and cover. And, honestly, the vocals just sound more badass and evil in Swedish.

Metall, Blod & Aska is the first full-length release for an outfit—Olle Olsson (vocals), Christian Larsson (guitars), Andreas Berglund (bass), Tomas Jeppsson (drums)—that’s been kicking around in various forms since 2009, with the current lineup in place since 2016. It was recorded, mixed and mastered by Larsson and Jeppsson and is set for release on CD and digitally February 17 via Grind to Death Records. You can order it here.

Here’s what the band had to say about its debut release:

“After four demo/EP releases, we finally present the debut full-length album, Metall, Blod & Aska, which translates to ‘metal, blood and ashes.’ It is a death/thrash album with some blackened elements. Lyrics mainly focus on war and death with a touch of anti-religion. It contains a mix of fierce and fast riffs combined with heavy, slower parts.”
