Full Album Stream: Freeroad – ‘Do What You Feel!’

Seems like Mexican trad metal quartet, Freeroad, are channeling their inner Bart Simpson on their new nine-song debut, Do What You Feel! Remember the episode, “Bart’s Inner Child,” where some quack therapist declares Bart’s YOLO attitude,  typified by his “I do what I feel like” approach to life, to be what everyone should aspire to? “Be like boy!” the Springfield citizens chant at him, and the town even puts together a Do What You Feel festival. Freeroad definitely attended that, if only in spirit.

But seriously, these four young musicians—Ramiro “Ranzig” Mendoza (guitar), Alejandro Velazco (guitar/vocals), Eli Arrieta (bass), Daniel “Fish” Tirado (drums)—can’t be bothered to pay attention to what’s going on in metal circa 2023, when their hearts lie in 1983 (or maybe ’73). Their idea of “do what you feel” is to do a spot-on version of NWOBHM-meets-proto-metal and let their freak flags fly (see album the cover). And to be sure, Do What You Feel! is the better for it.

Do What You Feel! was recorded in Echoes Studio and produced by bassist Eli Arrieta and singer/guitarist Alejandro Velazco. It was mastered by Patrick W. Engel at Temple of Disharmony. It’s set for release on January 27 via Dying Victim Records on vinyl, CD and digital. Place your preorder here.

Here’s what Freeroad had to say about their debut (spoiler alert: they’re stoked):

“We love those times when rock was young, mystical and new for everyone. That’s how we make our music, with that same soul, energy…. the same feeling! We hope that the listener gets the same vibe that we feel. It’s our way to return to the only thing in life we have left when we are lonely, that follows us everywhere we go, the soundtrack of our lives—music. We hope that you enjoy our first album. Always do what you feel!”
