For Those About Squawk: Waldo Pecks on Sanguisugabogg and All Out War

What’s up? It’s your ol’ boy Waldo here, to inform you about some new and upcoming releases—good, bad, or otherwise. Remember, I’m not an elitist, you just have terrible taste.

Sanguisugabogg is releasing Homicidal Ecstasy, continuing the “slammy” fun that the previous LP Tortured Whole was. Man, this band is a blast. Slam bands have been circulating in the underground for years now and it’s great to see one finally get recognized by one of the bigger labels. All the hallmarks of a slam band are here: death metal growls, fast, pingy snare, and breakdowns. Although Sanguisugabogg (damn, that name sucks to type) is a slam band, there’s something that sets them apart from the rest of the faceless acts of the genre, and that’s the songwriting. And damn, is there some low end here? My nest started rumbling. More than likely, you’ve heard of this band, so I urge you to peck this thing up, if you haven’t, catch up with the times. 9 Fucking Pecks.

All Out War has been kicking around in the underground for ages. Known as metal, hardcore and metallic hardcore, the band themselves have always claimed to be a metal band. Celestial Rot is somewhat of a departure for their typical sound. This birdbrain can describe this best as hardcore mixed with black metal. Or blackened death, or an amalgamation of all the above. What it is, is a great record. The band’s vocalist Mike Score says, “expressed the decay of not only this world, but the dogma that has helped bring us here. The fall of the earthly realm, as well as the spiritual realm. We are excited for this release because we touch on influences that we have not tapped into previously.” Cool. 8 Fucking Pecks.

Waldo out.
