Full Album Stream: Dysgnostic – ‘Scar Echoes’

November 8, 2022 Adem Tepedelen
Featured, Full Album Stream black metal, death metal, Defilementory, denmark, dissonant death metal, Dysgnostic, Post Metal, Scar Echoes, Transcending Obscurity.

Previously going under the moniker Defilementory, Danish death metal rippers opted to change things up musically and are now going under an equally, uh, unconventional name, Dysgnostic, in their new dissonance-forward incarnation. Three of four Defilementory members are here—Thomas Fischer (bass/vocals), Simon Klem Kannegard (lead guitar/backing vocals), Richardt Olsen (drums/guitar)—but stylistically there’s more light and shade to the band’s progressive sound, as well as some black metal leanings. As Dysgnotic’s debut, Scar Echoes, streamed in full below, indicates, the intensity level hasn’t diminished, but the brutality is well balanced with moments of melody and post-metal beauty.

Scar Echoes offers an engaging ride through eight dynamic tracks carefully crafted and expertly arranged and played. Dysgnostic easily weave together a wide range of extreme influences into cohesive pieces, never opting for the obvious. It’s a promising debut and a successful “rebrand” for the musicians. Scar Echoes is set for release on November 11 via Transcending Obscurity on vinyl, CD, cassette and digitally. You can preorder from Dysgnostic’s bandcamp store here or from Transcending Obscurity’s store here.

This is what the band had to say about the new album:

“Humans are endlessly flawed. There is a persistent myth of us as rational actors that has perverted our self image and actions deeply. Our traumas and wounds shape us and our actions. We are epistemically trapped. We must see with human eyes, feel with human skin and think with human minds. We therefore, in the name Dysgnostic, paradoxically claim to know that knowledge is impossible. Our actions and thoughts are too distorted by an endless barrage of scar echoes.”
